Midfielders

 What is a midfielder?

Midfield is the position that is behind the forwards, but in front of the defense.  This position plays both offense and defense.  Their main goal is to distribute the ball to open players and stop the other team from building an attack. Depending on the team, the amount of midfielders can vary, but for all teams the role is the same.

Being a midfielder requires a lot of running, so being conditioned is essential.  They are all over the field, going up and trying to score and also dropping back to prevent the other team from scoring or getting a shot off.

The most important thing for a midfielder is to have good field vision and awareness.  Your main job is to pass the ball around until there is a chance to score.  So knowing where your teammates are and where the other team is at is very important.

Passing

Since passing is a big part of being a midfielder, we will go over some techniques to accurately pass the ball.  First, you want to face your hips to where you want to pass the ball.  Wherever you face your hips, odds are that is the direction the ball will go.  Then you want to use the inside of your foot and hit the ball in the middle.

If the person who the pass is intended for is far away, you do the same with your hips, but the way you strike the ball will be a bit different.  Instead of hitting the ball in the middle, you will hit it towards the bottom.  Put both of those together and lean your body back.  The farther back you lean the higher the ball will go.
